Aurora Family Mission Trip 2018 Day 5

Home sweet home!! All 7 families have made it home safely - thank you so much for your prayers for safe travels!!!

The 5 families that were still at New Song had the privilege of serving one more time in a special way this morning when a man who was having a rough time came into the church looking for some help. New Song doesn't keep any money on hand, so our team was able to bless him with some money and all of our snack food that hadn't been eaten this week! He and his wife and their 3 kids had just moved into the area and were living in a motel, trying to find affordable housing, while also awaiting his deployment to Afghanistan. We got to pray with him and were grateful that God had him come there on the day we were there! Please join us in praying for Brian and his family, that they would find a home, be able to provide for their family, and that they might get connected at New Song, or another area church.

Our kiddos also got to perform the infamous "I Came To Party" VBS song for the congregation during this morning's service - and yes we introduced New Song to worship flossing ;) Dan Onder read the (lengthy!) scripture passage like a pro, and Matt and Rachel Queen got to join the praise team for the morning. It was a great ending to our week of serving. And if you're driving towards Aurora, IL anytime soon, keep an eye out for our Faith Family Mission Trip ROCKS!!!

We are so blessed to be able to serve with our families this week. We hope to continue Jesus' command to love one another in ALL we do.

Aurora Family Mission Trip 2018 Day 4

It's been quite a day! We went to Phil's Friends this morning to aid their mission of providing support and hope to those affected by cancer. We donated our care package items, colored cards for the patients and filled the bags for care packages. As a group, we colored about 150 cards - which at first seemed like a lot, but considering they send out almost 15,000 cards a month, it's just a drop in the hope bucket. But we were so happy to help in the small way we could.

After lunch, it was finally time for the Blessing Quest! We divided into 7 teams and set out to bless the area community through different good deeds and show them God's love. We had some neat interactions, big and small, and while we may not ever know how the things we did impacted the people we encountered, we know God works in AMAZING ways.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at Portillo's, and some of us went back to Feed My Starving Children for one last pack, while the rest of the crew went back to the church to clean up New Song for service tomorrow morning.

Two of our families had to leave tonight to head back home, so please pray for safe travels for them, as well as the rest of us tomorrow. It's been a great week, albeit full of stress and the challenges of living outside of our comfort zone with our children. It certainly hasn't been a perfect week, but we pray it has been a God-honoring week, full of love, and impactful memories, especially for our kids. As parents, it is our greatest desire to see our kids solidified in their faith, and we pray this trip is one seed planted deeply in their hearts that will lead them to an everlasting faith in Jesus.
