Faith Family Mission Trip 2016 - Day 5

We're HOME!

Praise God, all 5 families have arrived home safely tonight. We had a great morning worshiping with New Song. Rolph Bolstad gave an overview about our week in Aurora to the congregation on the team's behalf, then the little kids got to sing two songs. Matt Queen even sat in on the drums with the praise team - an unexpected, but super fun serve opportunity for him!

We're all glad to be back home, but relish the experiences God gave us during our trip. We serve an AWESOME God who has blessed us with wonderfully supportive church, friends, and family. We can't thank you enough for holding us in prayer.

Faith Family Mission Trip 2016 - Day 4

Our last day of serving - it's hard to believe! While it seems we've just begun, when you look around at all the tired, happy faces, it hits you that it's already coming to a close.

This morning we set off for Phil's Friends, an organization whose mission is providing Christ-centered support and hope to those affected by cancer by mailing care packages and cards. We've never served there before, so we were excited to find out how we would be helping. After a brief orientation and history on the organization, we got busy...COLORING! As you can imagine, finding opportunities to serve with children as young as 1 can be challenging, so it felt a little like we hit the jackpot! We colored cards that had funny jokes on them and shared words of encouragement. We also got to write our names and ages on the cards, so the recipients would know who was hoping to brighten their day. The older kids and adults were also able to stencil the boxes that the care packages are packed into. It was fun to see some of us who haven't colored in quite a while get our creativity going again! We were given the fun job of packing the care packages as well. Armed with a list and a basket, packers pick each donated item out of organized bins, then pack the items into a decorated box. The kids loved helping pack these care packages and getting to ring a bell after it was completed. What a rewarding and fun experience serving those in crisis health situations.  The afternoon brought us together to recap our experiences from the week, play some games - including the activity that brings the most laughs and the most tears in one - the water balloon fight, and clean the church so that it looks like it did before we arrived - no small task!! We relaxed with family fellowship over a delicious dinner at Portillo's before the older kids and half the adults went back for one last pack at Feed My Starving Children.

We were on fire tonight and helped them reach their weekly production goal early! If you haven't researched much about FMSC, a life saving meal costs just $.22. If you are looking for an organization to support, you couldn't find a more worthy cause! Tomorrow we'll get up early to pack up our belongings and return the church to its complete "church mode" set up. We're looking forward to worshiping with New Song, and the kids are even singing a couple of songs during service...including everyone's favorite - mission trip theme song!!! Since it's permanently stuck in our heads, we might as well share the love :) After service, we'll head home to St. Louis. No doubt we'll be processing and reliving many of the experiences we had this year on the way home. Each year God speaks to us in different ways, and we hope we learned the lessons He planned out for us as we interacted with the Aurora community. Beyond blessed doesn't even begin to cover how we feel to live in our country, enjoy our freedoms, and serve a sovereign God who loves us more than we could ever fathom. Thank you for going on this journey with us!
